Do’s:
  • Relevance: Most important thing, to keep in mind, is that the content on the slides must be relevant to the topic. There must be no room for the other stuff that is not fulfilling the purpose of the presentation.
  • Time Consuming: The content must be precise and not more than 5-lines per slides. The data given in the slides must be to the point and informative. The viewer or the marketing people go through the presentations to get the main highlights of the topic and more information in lesser time. So, one must try to keep the content on the slides precise and informative, so that there is no wastage of time.
  • Choose photos wisely: Like the content of the topic, the images embedded in the presentation must be in sync with the topic. Any irrelevant image can break the engagement of the viewer. Also, the colour scheme and the animations, also play a vital role, in making the presentation more attractive and beautiful.
  • Create a Structure: The information in the presentation must follow a particular order. The organised data lets the audience to understand the context of the topic and absorb all the information, in a better way.
  • Use of Readable Fonts: The fonts used in the slides, for the headings and the text must be readable, not too fancy, and most preferably sans-serif fonts, as they are available in all the presentation software and are not converted into other fonts when shared online or viewed on other software.

Don’ts:

  • Overuse Transitions, Animations and Sound: The presentation is more effective when one puts his/her creativity into it. It has to be a balance of texts, images, sounds, charts and animations. Any of these in access can ruin the essence of the presentation. Also, unnecessary use of those elements can extend the size of the file, that can create a problem while uploading and running the file online.
  • Overload Slides with Text: Adding too much text to the slides can waste the time of the viewer. The presentation text must deliver more with pictures and animations than the textual content.
  • Rely on Templates: The templates can ditch the presenter anytime while sharing the presentation online. One must keep the design simple and convenient. The viewer must be attracted by the content, not by the templates.
  • Use More than 20-25 Slides: Again, the presentation must deliver more information in the lesser content. So adding more than 20-25 slides to a presentation is a big No!. It not only increases the size of the presentation but also, makes it boring. Also, a presentation having more than 25 slides, will tend to have more unnecessary data. No visitor wants to read or spend much time on an online presentation.
Presenting one's self through an online presentation can be a difficult task while attaining the attention of the audience is all upon the presentation itself. So, one must keep in mind the discussed do’s and don’ts, while sharing presentations online.
